Academic Organisation

Students in a classroom
Tutor groups are mixed in ability.

When pupils enter in Year 7, they are placed in teaching groups based on ability, and this continues throughout KS3.  Progress is monitored and pupils may be moved between groups according to ability and specific needs.

Towards the end of Year 9, pupils are given the opportunity of choosing the examination courses they wish to follow in Years 10 and 11.

Students in a classroom

We offer pupils the possibility of taking up to 12 GCSE examinations.  Each pupil is expected to follow courses in English, Maths, Science, PE and PSCHE.  In years 10 and 11, pupils are placed on one of give academic pathways, thus ensuring teaching groups comprise pupils of similar ability.  In addition to offering the usual GCSE courses and an extensive work related programme.  Independent study and extension work are essential parts of school life.
