Induction Programme For New Pupils |
The transfer to High School can be a worrying and anxious
time for both parents and children alike. At Wakefield
City High, however, we feel our induction programme eases
the transfer process and considerably reduces any anxieties.

| Enterprise Activities with
Year 7 |
In early September, Mrs S Harrison (Director of Specialism)
and Mr S Webb and Mrs H Graham (Head of Year 7) arrange a taster day for primary school
pupils. From October, staff visit the feeder schools on
a regular basis to meet, talk and work with pupils. The
pupils are then given further opportunities to come into
the High School to work in a number of curriculum areas.
As the year progresses, parents, as well as pupils, are
invited to the High School to meet staff, examine facilities
and see the school at work.
Towards the end of the Summer Term, pupils spend a further
full day in school, during which they:
- meet their tutor
- have timetabled lessons in a range of subjects
- meet the other members of their tutor group
- have a school lunch.
Each year, the programme is modified in the light of constructive
advice and suggestions from pupils and parents.
In addition, the Year 6 pupils attend a specially planned
Heritage Day where activities and performances take place
around a particular theme.
All of these events make the transition to High School
a smoother and more enjoyable experience. |
