Young Firefighters Pass Out in Style!
The the year 11 young firefighters had their passing out parade on the 6th of May at Fire Services HQ at Burkenshaw. The school are so proud of them. The 2 year course is designed to train the pupils in fire procedures and practices but also to gives the pupils confidence amongst peers and senior members in the community - Well Done!!!

Top gymnast Kelly Bowes (Y8) narrowly misses out on a Bronze medal. Kelly is currently in Bulgaira this week representing the United Kingdom (and WCHS !! ) in the very disciplined World Gymnastics Championships. ( more....) - photos and interview coming soon!!!

City High has been awarded its second outstanding OFSTED in just two inspections a very rare and difficult standard to maintain and achieve. It really is a testament to all of the staff, parents and pupils who have contributed to this showing the region and the nation that Wakefield City really is streets ahead of other schools.

Introduction
Wakefield City High School is a mixed comprehensive
school catering for just under seven hundred pupils aged
11-16 years. It is a Foundation school within the Aspire Trust working closely with Wakefield Metropolitan
District Local Authority and is situated on a large,
pleasant, single site in the north east of the city.

PUPILS CELEBRATE FINE GCSE RESULTS 2008 |
The majority of pupils come from a large catchment area
stretching from Pinders Heath in the North, to Belle
Vue in the South and from Eastmoor in the East, to the
St. John's area of the city in the West.
As a result of consistently high GCSE examination Value Added figures, City High is a constituent member of the DfES Schools Performance Collaborative and a mentor school for the Specialist Schools and Academies trust. Headteacher, Alan Yellup, is a Consultant Head for the Specialist Schools and Academies trust, Co-ordinator of the Raising Attainment and Transforming Learning programme for the East of England and is a Registered School Improvement Partner working the schools in Gateshead, North Yorkshire and the East Riding.
Demand for pupil places currently exceeds the annual admission limit.
Major building programmes in recent years have enhanced provision and, in May 2005 the next £1.5 million sports hall was opened. City High School has been successful in attracting additional funding and our ICT provision is amongst the best in the region. Pupils undoubtedly benefit both from the quality and range of facilities, and from being on a single site.

Extra-curricular activities play an important part in
the life of the school. Residential visits take place
on a regular basis, numerous clubs and societies run
after school, major musical and drama productions are
mounted and sports teams compete throughout the Yorkshire
region.
The school enjoys a good reputation with local employers
and an increasing number of pupils proceed to Wakefield
College, NEW College at Pontefract, Greenhead College
in Huddersfield and local sixth forms, in order to follow
courses of advanced study. |
